Fiji Law Reform and SI Law Reform signed a MOU for collaboration, 8 May 2025
The Fiji Law Reform Commission (FLRC) and the Solomon Islands Law Reform Commission (SILRC) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) in Suva, Fiji.
The MOU was signed by the Director of FLRC, Raijeli Lebaivalu Vasakula Tuivaga, and Chairman SILRC, Philip Kanairara.
The MOU provides the basis for a twinning program for the two law reform commissions where knowledge, expertise, and experiences can be shared. This is aimed at professional development of the officers of the two bodies to better equip them to do their law reform work. The twinning outcome is part of GNUT policy for the Ministry of Justice and Legal Affairs towards establishing justice partnerships with other legal agencies in the Pacific.
Among those present at the signing are the Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Justice and Legal Affairs (MJLA), George Hoa’au, and the Head of the Australia Solomon Islands Partnership for Justice (ASIPJ), Apolosi Bose. The MJLA acknowledges the funding support for its legal twinning programs by DFAT’s ASIPJ.

The SILRC signed a similar MOU with the Vanuatu Law Reform Commission (VLRC) on 24 October 2024. The twinning arrangement under that MOU commenced its implementation in April this year with three officers from the SILRC attaching with the VLRC for a month.
