About the Tourism Division

The Tourism Division is one of the divisions under the Ministry of Culture and Tourism. As a public sector, it plays a support role in developing sustainable forms of tourism and provides an enabling environment for the industry to grow in the Solomon Islands.

Legislation and regulation

To ensure the tourism sector practices sustainability.

Funding and fiscal incentives

Tourism grants are given on merit to local small tourism operators.

Land use planning

A program in collaboration with the Foreign Investment Board and the Ministry of Lands to identify, profile, and communicate the land status to foreign investors on the product readiness for the investment market.

Official Tourism quality standards

A Tourism quality standards program was established recently to develop and implement tourism minimum standards for the industry.

As of 2018, the Tourism Accommodation minimum standards has been implemented in some parts of the Solomon Islands, particularly in the Western Province, Guadalcanal, part of Malaita and Central Province.

The development of the travel and transport minimum standards is underway with the support of the Australian Volunteers International.

Trainings

Short training programs are usually organized for tourism operators in tourism and hospitality. Collaboration is also held with the Solomon Islands National University in the areas of human resources development in tourism and hospitality where diploma and certificate level courses are available.

Provision of infrastructure

Works closely with other Government bodies such as the Ministry of Infrastructure Development and other development partners to plan and implement tourism infrastructure developments e.g. airports, roads, and bridges.
