The Women In IT Solomon Islands (WITSI) join in celebrating International Women’s Day (IWD) on the 8th March.
This year the universal theme “DigitALL: Innovation and technology for gender equality” which has been expanded by the SIG Ministry of Women & the IWD 2023 Organising Committee to: “DigiAll: Celebrating, Learning, Empowering and Protecting Women of Solomon Islands through Technology – Achieving gender equality while innovating”.
The WITSI represents the Women IT Professionals in Solomon Islands, and with this year’s IWD theme being around Digital Inclusion and empowerment, WITSI was proud to be part of the celebrations at Town Ground field on 8th and 9th of March.
Alice Alisae Aote’e, WITSI Interim President and ITSSI (IT Society Solomon Islands) President, was part of a group of IT Professionals staffing the WITSI Information Booth at Town Ground. The booth was staffed with women professionals across government, state owned enterprises, private enterprise and interested members of the public. The theme was to disseminate Cyber Awareness and Cyber Security Information for the public so that the use of IT is done safely and securely.
“Using technological tools in the right way can dramatically improve lives. Whether it is running a small business learning a new skill using YouTube or reaching out to a vast number of customers to sell your products; technology tools can add so much more value to our lives” Alice Alisae Aote’e said.

The booth was widely attended with interest in Cyber Security by those viewing.
WITSI was also represented at the IWD Australian High Commission afternoon tea, on 8th March. Suzanne Moli Orudiana was the guest speaker, speaking on behalf of WITSI during the afternoon tea. Working for more than 20 years in the ICT Industry, she shared how WITSI has empowered her to continue on working in this male dominant Industry.
