Ministry of Lands, Housing and Survey Supports Industrial Internship Attachment for USP Students
The Ministry of Lands, Housing and Survey (MLHS) has continued to demonstrate its commitment to supporting tertiary education and skills development by accommodating ten (10) students from the University of the South Pacific (USP) for their industrial internship programme in September and October 2026.
The internship forms part of the requirements for Unit LM318, which requires students to complete 200 hours of industrial internship as a compulsory component of their programme of study. The placement provides students with an opportunity to gain practical workplace experience and apply the theoretical knowledge acquired through their academic studies.
To facilitate this requirement, the Ministry provided internship placements across several divisions and operational areas, including the Survey Division, Land Administration and Management Group, Valuation Division, the Physical Planning Division and Customary
Land Records among others. These placements expose students to the Ministry’s core functions and provide opportunities to learn from experienced officers in their respective fields.
As the Ministry marked the end of their engagement last week, the Permanent Secretary Mr Stanley Waleanisia, thank the students for their time with the Ministry and emphasised the importance of engaging students and supporting their professional development by providing practical exposure to the working environment. Mr Waleanisia, emphasized that the Ministry recognizes the important role that practical training plays in preparing graduates for the workforce. Its continued support for industrial internship placements reflects its commitment to working with educational institutions and contributing to the development of a skilled and knowledgeable workforce in Solomon Islands.
Through this programme, students gain valuable insights into land administration, surveying, property valuation, physical planning, and other land-related professional activities. The experience also helps them develop workplace skills, understand professional responsibilities, and prepare for future employment. By providing opportunities for students to fulfil their academic requirements, MLHS is not only supporting their educational journey but also investing in the future of the land sector.
The Ministry of Lands, Housing & Survey looks forward to strengthening its partnership with the University of the South Pacific and continuing to provide meaningful internship opportunities for students in the future.
