Senior Government Officials on Friday 28 May 20201 last week met the Acting Vice Chancellor of the Solomon Islands National University, Dr Jack Maebuta, Senior Management and staff, and discussed ways of strengthening cooperation between the Government and the Solomon Islands National University (SINU).
A statement from the Government Communications Unit (GCU) says officials representing the Office of the Prime Minister and Cabinet, Ministry of National Planning and Development Coordination, Ministry of Education and Human Resources Development and Ministry of Public Service, held successful and fruitful discussions with the SINU Senior Management.
Officials briefed SINU on the Government’s Redirection Policy, future training opportunities and academic performance of students.
The meeting noted the ongoing cooperation between Solomon Islands Government and the National University over the years and the keen interest of SINU to support the Government, with its labor training and Human Resources Development of the Country.
Officials were also briefed on the SIG students’ enrollment at the SINU as well as the various courses and programmes offered at SINU, and the keen interest of SINU to take on more students in the future.
Officials were further briefed on a number of Post Graduate Courses as well as Research Opportunities offered at SINU and commended SINU for these initiatives, which will help the country.
One of the issues highlighted in their discussions was the importance of undertaking programme audit, monitoring of all SIG sponsored students at SINU to ensure compliance, and that they complete their programmes and training on time and according to their scholarship awards.
Furthermore, officials were also briefed on challenges facing SINU, including the Fee arears, and the measures taken by SINU in addressing these issues.
The meeting welcome the opportunity to hold future dialogue and meetings with SINU to enhance their cooperative efforts and collaboration.
