SIG and UN to convene Development Partners Summit
The government, through the Ministry of National Planning and Development Coordination (MNPDC), and the United Nations, through the Resident Coordinator’s Office (UNRC), will convene a Development Partners Summit in Honiara on 17th August 2026.
All development partners of the Solomon Islands are attending this summit. Invitation has also been extended to other government ministries and agencies, private sector and stakeholders including the Central Bank of Solomon Islands (CBSI), Solomon Islands Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SICCI), Development Services Exchange (DSE), Solomon Islands National Council of Women (SINCW) and the Solomon Islands National Youth Congress (SINYC).
This summit is part of the GREAT coalition’s effort to ensure development partners understand the new government’s priorities and continue to support the government to convert policy priorities into tangible results.
As Solomon Islands approaches graduation from Least Developed Country (LDC) status in December 2027, the country is entering an important period of transition.
This transition requires stronger mobilisation and coordination of domestic and external resources, greater effectiveness in the use of development assistance and deeper partnerships to address emerging development and financing challenges.
The Summit will provide an important platform for the government and its development partners to strengthen alignment to achieve the priorities of the government.
A Summit Communiqué or Partnership Action Plan capturing agreed priorities,
commitments, responsibilities and follow-up actions on policy implementation is expected to be released at the end of this summit.
MNPDC Minister, Hon. Peter Kenilorea Junior, said the government, under the GREAT coalition, is pursuing pragmatic, sovereign and mutually beneficial international relations and strengthening regional stability and development cooperation, along with global partnerships that aligned with Solomon Islands national interest.
