Road Construction Works – Seaside Section of Hot Bread Roundabout

The public is advised that road construction works at the seaside section of the Hot Bread Roundabout, including the unpaved seaside approach, will commence on 15 June 2026.

This advisory supplements the earlier notice issued for works along the seaside section between the Hot Bread Roundabout and Central Market. Subject to favourable weather conditions, all works are expected to be completed within three (3) weeks.

The scope of works includes:

• Milling of the existing asphalt pavement;
• Installation of kerbstones;
• Pavement construction works; and
• Asphalt sealing.

In relation to these works, the public is further advised as follows:

1. Eastbound vehicles will use the left lane on the landside section via the temporary ramp located after the SIPA Junction and proceed to the seaside section before the Old Guadalcanal Headquarters Road.
2. Once works commence on the seaside section between the Hot Bread Roundabout and Central Market, eastbound vehicles will be diverted to the seaside lane via a temporary ramp located after the western gate of Central Market.
3. Work areas will be properly barricaded, and all necessary traffic signs and safety devices will be installed prior to the commencement of works.
4. Pedestrian walkways and designated crossing points will be provided at selected locations. Traffic Controllers from the Contractor, the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF), and the Road Transport Board (RTB) will be stationed on site to assist pedestrians and motorists and ensure the safe and efficient flow of traffic.
5. Pedestrians and motorists are requested to follow the directions of Traffic Controllers and Police Officers at all times while works are in progress.
6. Due to lane narrowing and temporary traffic diversions, traffic congestion is expected. Members of the public are encouraged to plan their travel accordingly when entering the Central Business District (CBD).
7. Bus terminals for eastbound passengers will remain temporarily located within the MID Works Compound.
8. Pedestrians are required to use the underpass and designated crossing points only to ensure public safety and minimise traffic disruptions.
9. A Traffic Management Plan is attached for reference. Additional signage may be installed as required, and work schedules may be adjusted depending on weather conditions.
