Public Notice: Temporary closure of the Tamboko Bridge
The Ministry of Infrastructure Development (MID), through its Transport Infrastructure Management Services Division (TIMSD), wishes to advise all motorists, residents of Northwest and West Guadalcanal, and the traveling public of an urgent temporary closure of the Tamboko Bridge.
The closure is scheduled to take place TOMORROW NIGHT to facilitate critical structural repairs.
Closure Schedule:
To minimize disruption to daytime traffic and commerce, works will be conducted overnight:
– Start Date: Thursday, 26 March 2026
– Start Time: 8:00 PM Tomorrow night
– End Time: 6:00 AM Morning (Friday, 27 March 2026)
Reason for Works:
Recent technical assessments conducted by engineers identified that the bridge’s eastern approach and foundation have been significantly compromised. To prevent structural failure and ensure the continued safety of the traveling public, a local contractor has been mobilized to reinforce the foundation and improve the approach road.
Public Guidance & Safety:
TIMSD advises all road users to take note of the following:
– Vehicular Traffic: The bridge will be fully closed to all vehicles during the specified hours. Please complete all “daily running” and travel plans today and whole of tomorrow morning and afternoon before the 8:00 PM shutdown in the evening.
– Pedestrian Access: A designated safe walkway will be maintained and monitored throughout the night for those needing to cross the bridge on foot.
– Site Safety: Motorists and pedestrians are urged to follow all on-site directional signage and comply with instructions from the contracting team to ensure the safety of both the public and the work crews.
Should you have questions or further information, contact the Supervising Engineer on mobile: 7159614 or 7804944.
TIMSD apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience and cooperation as they strive to make this road network connecting western part of Guadalcanal Province safer for everyone.
