SI Government Advances Eastern Border Outpost Project through Stakeholder Engagement

Honiara– The Solomon Islands Government, through the Ministry of Police, National Security and Correctional Services (MPNS CS) and the Office of the Prime Minister and Cabinet, continues to pursue the proposed Eastern Border Outpost Project.

The Government remains committed to delivering key border infrastructure developments nationwide, in fulfillment of the National Security Strategy and National Border Strategy Implementation Plans. As part of ongoing consultations with community stakeholders and project partners, a meeting was held on Friday, March 20, 2026, with the Vanikoro landowning group based in Honiara. The discussions took place in the National Security Conference Room.

The meeting was attended by Dr. Melchior Mataki, Secretary to the Prime Minister’s Office; Ms. Karen Galokale, Permanent Secretary; officials from the Ministry of Police, National Security and Correctional Services; and representatives of the Vanikoro community based in Honiara.

The Vanikoro Eastern Border Outpost represents a milestone infrastructure project undertaken by the Government of Solomon Islands, with support from the Australian Government. It aims to strengthen security, provide socio-economic support, and facilitate trade-related activities at the eastern border in Temotu Province.

The Solomon Islands Government reaffirms its commitment to delivering this project by 2028. It is working closely with the Temotu Provincial Government, stakeholders, and partners to support the planning, implementation, and construction phases.
