Commissioner of police delivers sport equipment’s to OST as part of helping the wellbeing of his police officers
The Acting Commissioner of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF), Mr James Aitorea, has delivered sport equipment’s to Operational Safety Training (OST) as part of helping officers’ wellbeing in physical fitness and readiness when dealing with policing challenges.
The delivery of sports equipment to OST, which happened on 7 October 2026, prepares officers in Honiara and Guadalcanal for every Wednesday physical training (PT) sessions.
The delivery of the sports items occurred after the commissioner directed all departments within the police force to restart the weekly PT sessions.
In a directive issued last week by the Chief of Staff (CoS) of the Commissioner of RSIPF, all RSIPF officers must attend those PT sessions.
The Acting Commissioner is concerned about the health, physical fitness and overall wellbeing of his officers and takes this initiative to restart the PT sessions.
Commissioner Aitorea said as police officers, maintaining a satisfactory level of physical fitness is essential to our ability to perform our duties effectively and respond to the physical demands of policing.
The Acting Commissioner said all RSIPF formations should take the lead and ensure that all officers under its command attend the weekly Wednesday afternoon PT sessions without fail.
He said officers serving in the provinces, the same directive also applies. Team leaders are required to make all necessary arrangements for officers within their respective formations to conduct the weekly Wednesday afternoon PT in its locations.
Mr Aitorea said for officers based in Honiara and Henderson, the weekly PT sessions will be conducted at the Rove police oval. All officers based in these areas are expected to attend and participate in the session.
He said the OST instructors are requested to prepare and coordinate a range of short physical training activities to be conducted during the sessions. The activities should cater to officers with different levels of physical fitness while encouraging all officers to actively participate.
