The 9th MSG Police Commissioners’ Conference (PCC) and 5th Police Ministers’ Meeting (PMM).

A Solomon Islands delegation attended the 9th Melanesian Spearhead Group (MSG) Police Commissioners’ Conference (PCC) and the 5th Police Ministers’ Meeting (PMM) held in Jakarta, Indonesia on the 14^th – 15^th October. The meetings brought together Police Commissioners and Ministers from MSG member countries to advance key priorities under the MSG Peace and Security Strategy.

The Solomon Islands delegation was led by Her Excellency Gladys Luahiti Isihanua, Solomon Islands High Ambassador to Indonesia, who represented the Government as Head of Delegation. She was accompanied by Mr. Ronny Horo from the Ministry of Police, National Security and Correctional Services.

In her intervention, Her Excellency Isihanua reaffirmed Solomon Islands’ unwavering commitment to Melanesian unity and solidarity through strengthened regional and bilateral cooperation. “Our participation in this meeting underscores Solomon Islands’ role as a steadfast partner in addressing shared challenges from climate resilience to regional stability within the Melanesian region,” she said.

The gathering, convened earlier this month, brought together representatives from MSG core members Fiji, Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands, and Vanuatu alongside the Front de Libération Nationale Kanak et Socialiste (FLNKS) of New Caledonia and Associate Member Indonesia. Discussions built upon the outcomes of the MSG Peace and Security Strategy Working Group Meeting held in Suva, Fiji, in September. Deliberations on the Strategy marked a significant milestone in strengthening Melanesian solidarity amid evolving security challenges in the region.

During the meeting, the Solomon Islands delegation joined other MSG members in visiting Indonesia’s Peacekeeping Training Center a certified facility utilized by several Pacific Island countries to prepare personnel for United Nations peacekeeping deployments. The delegation also visited Indonesia’s National Laboratory, exploring potential areas of collaboration and capacity support that Indonesia could extend to Solomon Islands.
