RSIPV Gizo 05 Returns Stronger: Boosting Solomon Islands’ Maritime Security
The Ministry of Police, National Security and Correctional Services proudly announces the safe arrival of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Vessel (RSIPV) Gizo 05, following the completion of its refit and maintenance program in Australia.
This marks a significant milestone in enhancing the maritime security capabilities of the Solomon Islands.
Addressing stakeholders at the welcome ceremony held at the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force Maritime Aola Base, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Police, National Security and Correctional Services Karen Galokale expressed heartfelt appreciation to the vessel’s Commanding Officer and crew for their professionalism and dedication during the refit period.
The RSIPV Gizo 05 is now fully prepared to resume its vital role in safeguarding the nation’s maritime borders and ensuring national security.
The timing of the vessel’s return is particularly crucial, as the RSIPV Gizo 05 is set to play a pivotal role in supporting the upcoming Pacific Islands Forum Leaders Meeting here in Honiara and the Leaders’ Retreat scheduled to take place in Noro, Western Province next week. It will continue its essential duties, including border security, maritime surveillance, and rapid response operations across the vast Exclusive Economic Zone of Solomon Islands.
The Permanent Secretary also extended sincere gratitude to the Government of Australia for funding the refit and maintenance of the vessel, and for their ongoing support through the Australia–Solomon Islands Defence Cooperation Program, delivered by the Australian Defence Force. This partnership remains foundational to strengthening the security capabilities of Solomon Islands, enhancing the capacity of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force Maritime Division to protect sovereignty and promote peace and security for the people.
Looking forward, the Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining and deepening this crucial security partnership with Australia, acknowledging the shared efforts required to address maritime challenges and uphold regional stability.
