Joint Inspection Team Reviews Progress and Stakeholder Concerns on Malaita Bridges
Ministry of Infrastructure Development (MID) Safeguards Unit was part of a joint inspection mission team that visited four bridges under construction in Malaita Province last week.
Chief Safeguards officer Roxsley Basil said the team consists of the MID Auki-based officer, Project Support Team, construction supervision engineer (EGIS), and the contractor China Civil Engineering Construction Cooperation (CCECC).
They first visited Kolofe 1 & 2 bridges on the North Road and conducted a meeting with the Community Advisory Committee (CAC).
“Few concerns were raised during the meeting and taken note of by stakeholders involved.”
Similar activity was also conducted at the Su’u and Bira bridges at West Kwaio road.
“Overall, the four bridges are 48% completed at this stage, and work is progressing well,” the safeguards officer said.
These four bridge projects are financed by the World Bank under the Solomon Islands Road and Aviation Project (SIRAP 2) component 2 on Climate Resilience and Safety Investments in the Road Sector.
The joint inspection team met with Kolofe Bridge project Community Advisory Committee last week.
The team comprised of MID, Project Support Team, design consultant team EGIS and CCECC site representatives.
