Seif Ples Launches Database to Strengthen Response to Gender-Based Violence

Honiara, Solomon Islands — Seif Ples under the Ministry of Police, National Security & Correctional Services (MPNSCS) today marked a significant milestone in the nation’s fight against gender-based violence with the official handover of their Database.

The event, held at Seif Ples, brought together key partners, including representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MFAT), ChildFund New Zealand and Australia, SAFENET partners, frontline service providers, and technical and community stakeholders.

Themed “Empowering Communities through Access to Information,” the ceremony highlighted the critical role that accurate, timely, and secure information plays in supporting survivors and improving service delivery across the Solomon Islands.

“Access to information can mean the difference between receiving life-saving support or falling through the cracks of the system,” stated Ms. Karen Galokale Permanent Secretary of Police, National Security & Correctional Services during the official remarks.

“With the launch of this database, we are moving toward a more coordinated, informed, and survivor-centred system”.

The Seif Ples Database is designed to improve confidentiality and case coordination, reduce the burden on frontline workers, track trends and identify service gaps, and strengthen decision-making for policies and resource planning.

She said by enabling better case management and facilitating data-driven decisions, the database is expected to enhance trust, accountability, and transparency within the response system. It will empower survivors to understand their rights, enable service providers to deliver more effective support, and assist policymakers in planning for safer communities.

She expressed deep appreciation to MFAT and ChildFund New Zealand for their financial and technical support, and acknowledged all partners for their commitment to collaboration, innovation, and survivor-centred service.

“As we hand over this tool, I call on all stakeholders to make full use of it — not just as a database, but as a foundation for partnership and continuous improvement,” the Permanent Secretary urged.

Centre Manager Brightly Beauty said the newly launched database is a core component of the project “Strengthening Crisis Response Services for Women, Children and Youths in Solomon Islands.”

“This is a milestone achievement for Seif Ples,” said the Centre Manager. “We are confident that this launch will be transformative for the Centre, enabling us to deliver enhanced services to survivors and support our communities more effectively.”

The Seif Ples Database represents the Solomon Islands Government’s ongoing commitment to strengthening its response to violence and placing survivors at the centre of all efforts. The Ministry is confident that this initiative will have a lasting impact, empowering survivors and building safer communities throughout the country.
