Transforming Honiara’s Urban Landscape: CAUSE II Announces Construction Sites and UPCOMING Community Consultations

The Community Access and Urban Services Enhancement (CAUSE) II Project has revealed its construction site list that it will work on for next year (2026) and onwards.
Component 1 of this project focuses on improving and maintaining key road network drainage systems and bridges across Honiara’s Central Business District and peri-urban communities.
These projects include road rehabilitation, bridge rehabilitation, culvert upgrades, and drainage improvements.
The specific sites are as follows:
– Tasahe – Ngossi Valley Road (Road Rehabilitation)
– Ngossi Valley – White River Road (Road Rehabilitation)
– Kolo’ale Ridge Road (West Kola) (Road Rehabilitation)
– Tsilm Street (Road Rehabilitation)
– Hibiscus Avenue (Road Rehabilitation)
– Skyline Drive (Road Rehabilitation)
– Lengakiki Road (Road Rehabilitation)
– Rewa Road (Road Rehabilitation)
– Mbokona Road Bridge, CBSI (Bridge Rehabilitation)
– Kobito Road Bridge (Bridge Rehabilitation)
– Tasahe Road Drainage (Drainage Rehabilitation)
– Mbokona Road Drainage (Drainage Rehabilitation)
– Market Place Drainage (Drainage Rehabilitation)
– Vura Road Drainage (Drainage Rehabilitation)
– Ngaliraugha Road Drainage 1 & 2 (Drainage Rehabilitation)
– Open Space/Park Improvements
All projects will adhere to the World Bank’s Environmental and Social Standards and the laws of this country.
To ensure a participatory approach, the CAUSE II project team seeks to engage with local communities and neighbourhoods near these sites, giving residents a window to voice concerns, share suggestions, and participate in discussions about the upcoming works.
These consultations will help understand the local environment and identify potential impacts, including effects on fences, gardens, private properties, or community access.
Particular attention will be given to vulnerable groups such as women, youth, the elderly, and persons with disabilities who may be directly affected or feel at risk during the physical works.
Community engagement will take place through site visits and two scheduled open awareness sessions, where community members can learn more and discuss the projects. Furthermore, information about local employment opportunities related to the works will be provided.
Community Awareness Sessions:
– Wednesday, 19th November 2025, from 4:00 to 7:00 PM – West Side, Rove Bulk Shop Area
– Thursday, 20th November 2025, from 4:00 to 7:00 PM – East Side, HCC Area

The CAUSE II Project has a Grievance Mechanism (GM) to ensure all public concerns and complaints are recorded and addressed. The Projects’ Management Unit (PMU) has successfully hosted a series of Business Opportunity and Awareness Meetings with local contractors discussing the procurement and critical preparations for tenders under this component.
Meanwhile, Kramer Asia Pacific, the designing consultant for Component 1, will soon unveil the detailed design for these civil projects.
CAUSE II has also pre-identified infrastructure needs in provincial centers like Guadalcanal, Auki, Gizo, Munda, and Noro.
The four other components of this project are Safe and Inclusive Communities, Enhanced Urban Productivity, Urban Management and Land Administration, and Project Management.

Component 1 of this project focuses on improving and maintaining key road network drainage systems, bridges and coastal protection in Honiara, Malaita, and Western Province.
Kobito Bridge at East Honiara and the one near CBSI Area at Mbokona is slated for full rehabilitation under CAUSE II Project component 1. Recent heavy rainfall combined with increased traffic has compromised the structural integrity of some of the bridges in Honiara and even provinces, posing safety concerns for community members.
