The Republic of Marshall Islands keen to strengthen ties with Solomon Islands to advance shared values, goals and priorities
The Non-Resident Ambassador of the Republic of the Marshall Islands to Solomon Islands, His Excellency Junior Aini, has paid a courtesy visit to Prime Minister Hon. Jeremiah Manele MP.
During his brief courtesy visit, His Excellency Junior Aini expressed his country’s keenness for stronger cooperation with Solomon Islands and the broader Pacific region to advance shared values, goals and priorities.
Potential areas of cooperation between the two nations include labour mobility, fisheries, food security, inter-regional trade, Climate Change among others.
Welcoming His Excellency Junior Aini’s sentiments to strengthen the Solomon Islands- Marshall Islands ties, Prime Minister Manele stated, Solomon Islands has initiated a pilot labour mobility arrangement with Niue and is open to discussing similar arrangements with the Marshall Islands.
Prime Minister Manele also conveyed the government of Solomon Islands’ appreciation for the valuable contribution of the Republic of the Marshall Islands through the Regional Assistance Mission to Solomon Islands, which played a crucial role in restoring peace, law and order during Solomon Islands challenging period marked by ethnic tensions.
On people-to-people connections, Prime Minister Manele noted that there is a small Solomon Islands diaspora in the Marshall Islands, primarily due to employment opportunities.

Prime Minister Manele looks forward to Marshall Islands participation and contributions to the Pacific Islands Forum Leaders Meeting from September 8-12 this year.
As members of the Blue Pacific continent, Solomon Islands and the Republic of Marshall Islands share a strong commitment to regional priorities, including climate change mitigation, sustainable ocean governance, economic development, and the sustainable use of marine resources.
Solomon Islands and Marshall Islands commit to continue collaboration with all Pacific Island nations to address key regional priorities as outlined in the 2050 Strategy for the Blue Pacific Continent.
Solomon Islands and the Republic of Marshall Islands established diplomatic relations on May 23, 1990. The relationship is characterized by mutual respect and cooperation, underpinned by shared regional interests.
