Supervision is not just about overseeing task – DCO Nagu
Officers of the Correctional Service of Solomon Islands (CSSI) from Tetere Correctional Centre (TCC), Rove Central Correctional Centre (RCCC) and Correctional Head quarter staff have successfully completed a two-week Non-Commissioned Officer (NCO) training held at the Correctional Service Training Academy (CSTA) in Rove, Honiara.
Speaking at the official closing of the course, Deputy Commissioner Operation, Mr. Michael Nagu said, as we come to the close of this enriching supervisor’s course, I want to take a moment to reflect on the journey we’re shared over the past days and weeks as we explored the core principles of leadership, communication, accountability and team development. We have challenged assumptions, built new skills, and most important grown together as professionals.
Mr. Nagu says. “Supervision is not just about overseeing task but it about inspiring people, solving problems, and creating environments where others can thrive. Each of you has demonstrated a commitment to becoming not just supervisors but better leaders that commitment will ripple through your teams, your organization and your communities.”
Mr. Nagu encouraged the NCOs to apply what they have learned and apply with confidence, lead with empathy and communicate with clarity. “Hold yourself and others to high standards, and never stop learning because the role of a supervisor is dynamic and demanding but it also deeply rewarding,” he said.
CSTA Director Mr. Joseph Watawa said, today as we come together not only to mark the closing of this training but we also realised the journey of our wok life, the journey of our responsibilities and the journey of promotion as ranking officer in CSSI.
On behalf of the Correctional Service Training Academy, Director Joseph Watawa extended appreciation to the office of the commissioner and executive, officers from Tetere Correctional Centre, officers at Rove Central Correctional Centre and Headquarter staff for successfully completing the course.
Sergeant James Kuza thanked the office of the commissioner for supporting this training and also acknowledge the course facilitators for their time and commitment rendered during the training
