SUPERVISING HEALTH MINISTER MEET WITH HEALTH SENIOR MANAGEMENT EXECUTIVE TEAM
The supervising Minister for the Ministry of Health and Medical Services (MHMS), Honourable Bradley Tovosia, this morning met with the Ministry’s Senior Executive Management (SEM) team and was briefed on its overarching goal: to ensure all Solomon Islanders, regardless of their location, have equitable access to high-quality health services, including preventive, curative, rehabilitative, and health promotional services.
Mrs. Pauline McNeil, the Health Permanent Secretary, opened the meeting by introducing the Health Executive Senior Management team to the supervising Minister, Hon. Tovosia. She also provided an overview of the ministry’s context and operating environment, highlighting the importance of strong governance within the health sector. She emphasized the need for health systems and resources to effectively meet national demands and be managed responsibly, ensuring all Solomon Islanders have fair access to fully implemented, high-quality healthcare programs. In addition, she outlined existing gaps and challenges, discussed strategies for moving forward, and presented a summary of the ministry’s expenditure budget.
Minister Hon. Bradley Tovosia thanked the Senior Executive Management for the warm welcome and introduction to the ministry’s overarching goals, challenges and ways of working forward. He expressed his appreciation to the Senior Executive Management and all health officials who have contributed to leading and supporting the Ministry over time. He recognized the dedication, leadership, and commitment demonstrated by staff and leaders, noting that their efforts have laid an important foundation for ongoing progress.
He acknowledged that the Ministry is currently facing a number of challenges, and encouraged all SEM/all staff of MHMS to embrace these difficulties with a positive and proactive mindset. Rather than avoiding challenges, he urged everyone to confront them directly and work collaboratively to identify practical and sustainable solutions.
He expressed his gratitude and enthusiasm for joining the Ministry of Health and Medical Services (MHMS), stating that he looks forward to working alongside the team. He emphasized that although the timeframe may be short, there is a strong opportunity to make meaningful contributions and achieve significant results.
He concluded by reaffirming his commitment to serve and support the Senior Executive Management (SEM) and the broader Ministry. He encouraged unity, determination, and collective effort, stressing that by working together and facing challenges head-on, the Ministry can continue to strengthen its performance and deliver improved health outcomes for all people.
