SUCCESSFUL DAY ONE: TEMPORARY EASTBOUND BUS BAY AT WORKS COMPOUND
14th May 2026
We are pleased to report that the first day of operations at the temporary bus stop within our Works Compound has been a success.
Our teams have been closely monitoring traffic flow and the movement of buses and passengers. We are encouraged by the order and efficiency observed throughout yesterday and today.
Key Highlights:
– Smooth Traffic Flow: Moving eastbound pickups and drop-offs inside the MID Compound has resulted in a noticeable reduction in congestion along the main CBD corridor.
– Driver Cooperation: A heartfelt thank you to our bus drivers and operators for diligently following the instructions of the Road Transport Board Taskforce.
– Efficient Operations: When officers on-site are listened to and designated lanes are followed, everyone reaches their destinations faster and more safely.
Quick Reminder for Eastbound Traveling Public:
– Routes: All buses servicing King George, Lunga, Naha, Kola’a Ridge, and 10 Dollar Market now use the MID Compound.
– Other Routes: Buses heading to Henderson, East, North, and Central Guadalcanal can continue using their current waiting points for now.
– Instructions: Please follow all directions from traffic officers on-site.
– Access Points: Entry via the Western Gates; Exit via the Eastern Gate.
– Operating Hours: 5:00 AM – 9:00 PM daily.
– Safety Tips: Use designated crossing point at the underground pass and avoid “random crossing” near HCC Headquarters, Magistrate Court, and Wesley United Church.
Looking Ahead
We acknowledge the public’s feedback regarding a permanent central bus bay for Honiara. While space constraints remain a challenge, this temporary success demonstrates what is possible through forward planning and public cooperation. We are committed to future improvements and will “slowly get there” with support from our development partners and stakeholders to build a more resilient and organized Honiara.
Thank you for your patience as we work with the contractor, China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation, to complete the Mendana Avenue road upgrades under the Land and Maritime Connectivity Project.
