Honiara, Solomon Islands – 20 October 2026
The Solomon Tower Limited (STL) held a one-day Lessons Learnt Workshop at the Outback Holiday Resort Conference Room at Rove Sea Front on Tuesday, 20 October 2026, bringing together the SINBIP’s stakeholders to reflect on implementation experiences and challenges, identify key lessons, and discuss approaches to strengthen the delivery of Government projects in the future.
After the Government of the People’s Republic of China officially handed-over a total of 161 telecommunication towers to the Government and people of Solomon on the 31st July, 2026 at the St. Joseph’s Tenaru School ground under this Solomon Islands National Broadband Infrastructure Project, the workshop is an initiative to provide an opportunity for participants to review and reflect on the progress of SINBIP, share experiences gained throughout project implementation, and identify challenges, successes, and areas requiring improvement. The discussions were intended to support continuous learning, strengthen coordination among stakeholders, and inform future planning and decision-making.
As a major national initiative focused on broadband infrastructure, SINBIP plays an important role in supporting the development of digital connectivity in Solomon Islands. Reliable and accessible broadband infrastructure is essential to improving communication, supporting public service delivery, enabling business opportunities, and expanding access to digital services across the country.
The Lessons Learnt Workshop provided a platform for stakeholders to reflect on the importance of effective project coordination, timely communication, risk management, stakeholder engagement, and the application of lessons from implementation experiences. These areas are important in ensuring that project activities are managed effectively and that challenges encountered can inform improvements in future implementation.
Key areas covered and discussed during the workshop with reference to the SINBIP Project are;
- Feasibility Studies, Tower Designs and Operating Partners.
- Project Financing Arrangement.
- Safeguards and Environmental Protection.
- Procurement and Contract Management.
- Solomon Tower Limited Set Up.
- Maintenance and Land Acquisition Procedures and Processes.
- Implementation and Variations.
- Completion and Optimization.
- Lessons learnt during the implementation stages of the SINBIP Project.
The workshop also highlighted the value of documenting lessons learnt and sharing knowledge among the relevant stakeholders. Capturing these experiences will help strengthen institutional knowledge, support accountability, and contribute to better planning and implementation of similar project initiatives in the future.
The successful implementation of the national broadband infrastructure Project demonstrates the collaboration, commitment, efforts and continued engagement among all relevant stakeholders. The insights gathered during the workshop are expected to help inform ongoing project activities and support efforts to achieve the project’s intended objectives.
