Solomon Islands Represented in Key Regional and International Security Forums

The Deputy Director of Border Security of the Ministry of Police, National Security and Correctional Services, Mr. Denson Varirokesa, successfully represented Solomon Islands in three major regional and international security engagements held between October and November 2025.

These engagements support the Government’s policy priorities and align with the Solomon Islands National Security Strategy (SI NSS) 2025–2028, which emphasises strengthened partnerships, whole-of-government coordination, and proactive engagement on both hard and soft security issues.

The meetings attended included:

· Regional Security Workshop, Port Vila, Vanuatu (19–23 October 2025), which focused on regional geopolitics, maritime security, and strengthened Pacific cooperation.

· South Pacific Intelligence Dialogue (SPID) – Analyst Workshop, Nadi, Fiji (27–31 October 2025), which covered intelligence assessment, dual-use infrastructure, and the integration of Artificial Intelligence in security analysis.

· 3rd IORIS Steering Committee Meeting, Manila, Philippines (18–20 November 2025), which reviewed upgrades to the Indo-Pacific Regional Information Sharing platform (IORIS) maritime information-sharing platform used across the Indo-Pacific.

Key outcomes from these engagements included strengthened regional and international networks, an improved understanding of Indo-Pacific security trends and risks, enhanced knowledge of intelligence tools and AI-supported analysis, increased capacity in maritime domain awareness through IORIS, and opportunities for follow-up training and cooperation in 2026.

In reflecting on the value of the meetings and workshop, Deputy Director Varirokesa stated: “These engagements offered important insights into emerging security challenges and the evolving tools used across our region. The knowledge gained will greatly support our efforts to strengthen border security and improve coordination with our regional partners.”
