Solomon Islands Holds Key LPG Industry Review in Brisbane

The Solomon Islands held its triennial and annual review meeting on the Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) sector from September 15-17, 2024, in Brisbane, Australia. This event, organised by the Ministry of Commerce, Industries, Labour & Immigration (MCILI) through its Consumer Affairs and Price Control division, focused on the performance, safety, and regulatory compliance of the LPG industry in the Solomon Islands.

Representatives from both the government and Geogas Solomon Limited, a prominent supplier in the Solomon Islands LPG market, attended the meeting to review achievements, discuss challenges, and explore future investment strategies in the country’s LPG sector.

Leading the Solomon Islands delegation were Geoffrey Dan Houua, the Director of the Consumer Affairs and Price Control division, and Edward Bamu, Secretary to the Prices Advisory Committee. Representing Geogas Solomon Limited was its General Manager, Henry Kapu. The review was also supported by New Zealand-based consultancy firm Envisory Limited, represented by technical advisor Shakil Kumar, whose extensive expertise in the LPG industry spans New Zealand and the Pacific Islands.

Geogas Solomon Limited, a subsidiary of the Geogas Group, is a major player in the Pacific LPG market, providing energy solutions for both residential and commercial needs across seven Pacific Island nations. In September last year, Geogas Solomon acquired a majority share in the Solomon Islands’ LPG market from Origin Energy Limited, while a 20% share remains locally held by Melanesian Group of Companies. Through its strategic investments, Geogas continues to shape the region’s energy landscape with a focus on economic development, safety, and sustainability.

The review concluded successfully, with the Solomon Islands delegation returning home on September 18, 2024.
