Prime Minister Hon. Manasseh Sogavare MP hosted a welcome reception last night to honor Heads of Governments who responded positively to his invitation to the Pacific Games official opening in Honiara.
His Excellency, David J Hurley AC DSC, Governor General of Australia and lady Hurley, His Excellency Surangel Whipps Jr, President of the Republic of Palau, The Honourable James Marape, Prime Minister of the Independent State of Papua New Guinea, His Excellency Mr. Cai Dafeng, Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress of the People’s Republic of China were among distinguished leaders who attended the 17th Pacific Games Official opening on the invitation of Prime Minister Sogavare.
Prime Minister Sogavare was honored that these leaders decided to grace the event with their presence.….. “On behalf of the people of Solomon Islands I thank you.”
On legacy, the Prime Minister stated, every participating men and women, boys and girls must embrace sport as a powerful force for regional unity and inclusivity. It is a reflection of the Pacific’s collective identity, a showcase of our talents, and a unique opportunity to collectively voice our uplifting and inspiring message to the world. A message that demonstrates our unity and resilience, one that inspires inclusiveness and promote friendship, peace and prosperity.
“That is the legacy we want every participating men and women, boys and girls to embrace.”
Prime Minister Sogavare further adds, the journey to host the Pacific Games was faced with extreme weather events, domestic civil unrest, ongoing global conflicts and the COVID-19 pandemic but thankful for the support from partners in addressing the challenges.
The Prime Minister sincerely thank all partners and friends for their continued support and assistance….. “Your presence here today is very much appreciated and welcomed,” concluded Prime Minister Sogavare.
A number of leaders have left the country before the ‘thank you’ reception.
