SOEs Active on the Ground for Auki Town China-Aid Road Upgrade Project

Following the signing of a landmark Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between the national government and three key state-owned enterprises (SOEs), critical utility relocation exercises are now fully underway in Auki as part of the Auki Town China-Aid Road Upgrade Project.

Solomon Power, Solomon Water, and Our Telekom are actively on-site, working diligently to move power poles, water pipes, and telecom cables to facilitate the road upgrade and ensure smooth progress.

Key Highlights:

– Teamwork: The relocation activities are being closely coordinated with contractor China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) to minimize service disruptions for residents and businesses in Auki.

– The Upgrade: The project covers a 9-kilometer stretch from Kilu’ufi Hospital to Kwaibala Bridge, including feeder roads and the town loop. All sections are set to be sealed with durable 50mm asphalt to enhance longevity and safety.

– Employment: Over 200 local Malaitans are currently employed on the project, contributing to local economic development.

– Timeline: The government and stakeholders are committed to completing the upgrade by November 2026.

This project augments the government’s National Transport Infrastructure Plan 2017-2035 and serves as a testament to the PRC’s support for the country’s most populous province’s infrastructure development, further cementing the friendship.
