Government Communication Officers from selected Ministries have successfully concluded a training programme on Web Content Management Systems (CMS) this week.
The highly technical training programme was conducted by the Government Communication Unit (GCU) in partnership with the SIG ICT Services.
Communication Officers participating in the training are responsible for developing and feeding information such as news and other relevant information into the SIG Portal https://solomons.gov.sb/ .
The training intends to upskill communication officers to be able to create content and be able to disseminate information remotely from their workplaces on the SIG Portal.
The SIG Portal is the Governments Central Website (One-Stop-Shop) for information regarding the Solomon Islands Government.
SIG ICT Services Deputy Director for Strategy and Innovation, Samson Wa’ahero said the training was necessary to ensure the SIG Portal is updated with fresh information to its readers and viewers.
He said a website is only relevant when it provides accurate and updated information to its readers and viewers.
“As content providers, SIG Communication officers play a crucial role in the SIG Portal and it is vital that they are upskilled on the latest trends and website applications,” Wa’ahero said.
Government Communication Unit (GCU) Director George Herming said his team is very privileged to undergo the training programme.
Herming expressed confidence that the knowledge and skills acquired from the training will improve the level of information dissemination by the Government through various media platforms including the SIG Portal
George Herming“I am confident that the skills acquired from this highly technical training will improve the level of information dissemination by the Government, especially, using the central SIG Portal and other social media platforms”
Next year, similar training programmes will be organised for the rest of the SIG Communication pool of officers.
