SIEC Completes Training for Senior Election Officers Ahead of By-Elections

CEO Mr Jasper Highwood Anisi with SIEC staff and Senior Election Officers after completing training for the upcoming Provincial Ward By-Elections in Malaita and Isabel.
The Solomon Islands Electoral Commission (SIEC) has successfully concluded a three-day training program for Senior Election Officers. The training was held in preparation for the upcoming Provincial Ward By-Elections in West Baegu–Fataleka Ward 5 (Malaita Province) and Koviloko Ward 7 (Isabel Province).
The training, which started on 3 February and concluded on 5 February 2026, aimed to prepare election officers to carry out their duties in a professional, fair, and transparent manner.
The Chief Electoral Officer, Mr Jasper Highwood Anisi, said that despite challenges faced in the recent fire, SIEC remains fully capable of delivering elections.
He said that following last year’s fire, the most important resource secured by the Commission was its election data, which remains safe.
“We managed to retrieve all our important documents, especially the voters list, and we are using these for the two upcoming by-elections,” Mr Anisi said.
He further said that SIEC is fully prepared to conduct any by-election from now until 2028.
“This is our assurance to the public that SIEC will continue to deliver its constitutional mandate of conducting elections up to 2028,” he said.
Mr Anisi said the Senior Election Officers training forms part of SIEC’s ongoing preparations to strengthen election management across the country.
He further said the training covered election ethics, duties of election officials, nomination processes, polling and counting procedures, post-election processes, and administrative and financial requirements.
Mr Anisi encouraged voters in the West Baegu–Fataleka and Koviloko Provincial Wards to participate in the by-elections.
“I encourage all eligible voters in these two wards to turn up and vote for their provincial leaders,” he said.
SIEC remains committed to delivering free, fair, and credible by-elections and to maintaining public confidence in the electoral process.
