Secondary School Games Organising Committee and Our Telekom sign a milestone sponsorship agreement
A significant sponsorship agreement was signed on Wednesday, June 12, 2025, solidifying Our Telekom’s role as a major sponsor of the Solomon Islands Secondary School Games (SISSG) 2025. This partnership, alongside the Solomon Islands Government, Australian DFAT, and New Zealand MFAT, marks a crucial step in supporting youth development through sports and education.
The agreement was formally signed by Mr. Walter Diamana, Chair of the SISSG Committee; and Mrs. Christina Lasaqa, Our Telekom Chief Executive Officer. Dr. Franco Rodie, Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Education and Human Resources Development (MEHRD) signed the sponsorship as a witness to the agreement. The Ministry of Home Affairs was also a key party to the agreement.
Mr. Diamana expressed his gratitude to Our Telekom, acknowledging their recognition of sports’ vital role in shaping a brighter future for the nation’s children. “We believe your financial support will invest in our young children, enabling them to excel through education and sport,” he stated. He further emphasized the importance of institutionalizing and industrializing sports within education to foster high performance and create viable career paths for Solomon Islands’ athletes. Mr. Diamana also highlighted that this agreement lays the groundwork for a long-term partnership.
Our Telekom CEO, Mrs. Christina Lasaqa, echoed the sentiment of a lasting collaboration, stating, “The signing of this agreement is not just signing a paper, but the beginning of a journey for a long-term partnership.” She conveyed Our Telekom’s pride in supporting the School Games, which aim to cultivate future leaders through the integration of sport and education. Mrs. Lasaqa also expressed a vision for more structured games, akin to the Pacific Games, or even a future Pacific School Games, in collaboration with the Ministry of Home Affairs and MEHRD.
Dr. Franco Rodie, MEHRD Permanent Secretary, described the new sponsorship as a “redirection for the development of school sport.” He stressed the importance of investing in sports for young, school-aged children to secure more gold medals in future Pacific Games. Dr. Rodie also suggested rebranding the event as the “Telekom Secondary School Games” to reflect this new and significant partnership.
The SISSG 2025 will be hosted in Honiara from June 29th to July 4th, 2025. The event is expected to attract over 3,000 students, providing a platform for them to showcase their talents in a spirit of unity and sportsmanship. The theme for this year’s games is “Education, Health through Sport.”
