RUSSIA SEEKS SOLOMONS SUPPORT FOR ITS EXPO 2030 HOST BID
Russia is continuing its engagement with the Solomon Islands to help support them in their bid to host the 2030 Expo.
Mr Egor Utkin, the Russian International Cooperation Officer at the Russian Expo Pavilion met with Commissioner General, H.E. Moses Kouni Mose on Thursday 23rd December, 2021 to discuss matters pertaining to their Expo 2030 bid.
Mr Utkin explained the proposed Russian theme which is “Progress of Humanity: A Shared Vision for a Harmonious World”, adding that it is contributing to the vision of fairness and sustainability in the world where human prosperity is indissolubly connected with the natural environment.
Commissioner General Mose says that ‘The ‘Solomon Islands welcomes Russia’s bid to host the 2030 World Expo and extended an invitation for them to visit Solomon Islands to present their application.
CG Mose also noted the recent decision by Russia and Solomon Islands to establish formal diplomatic relations which will enable both countries to explore opportunities for mutual cooperation in combating the impact of climate change and investment in Renewable Energy”.
Five countries have submitted competing candidatures to organize World Expo 2030: Russia (in Moscow), the Republic of Korea (in Busan), Italy (in Rome), Ukraine (in Odesa) and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (in Riyadh).
The host country of World Expo 2030 will be elected in 2023 by BIE Member States gathered in a General Assembly, on the principle of one country, one vote.
