RTB Taskforce Continues Random Vehicle Inspections to Ensure Road Safety in Honiara

The Road Transport Board (RTB) Taskforce is actively conducting random spot vehicle inspections across key locations in Honiara to promote road safety and ensure compliance with the country’s road transport regulations.
The ultimate goal is to keep our roads safe for all road users. Over recent weeks, the number of vehicles impounded has increased, highlighting the importance of adhering to licensing and vehicle standards.
The primary reasons for impoundment include:
– Unlicensed registration
– Unlicensed drivers
– Dangerous mechanical defects
“Our top priority is road safety,” said Deputy Director of the Traffic Division of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) Measly Kelo.
“Removing defective vehicles and unlicensed drivers from our roads makes Honiara safer for families, pedestrians, and generally road users alike.”
He urged vehicle drivers and owners to check their paperwork and routine maintenance of vehicles and ensure licenses and registrations are current and valid before hitting the road.
The staff sergeant, Mr. Kelo, also emphasized the importance of proper vehicle permit use.
“Permits are only valid for daytime use, from sunrise to sunset.
“Vehicles should not carry passengers during permit issuance if they are not fully registered and licensed. Vehicles under permit are intended for testing and fixing, not for public transport.
“We keep reiterating to get your vehicles registered and fixed now to avoid penalties and legal action,” Sergeant Kelo advised.
