The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force Explosive Ordnance Disposal (RSIPF EOD) team will be conducting bomb blasting in the Shortland Islands Western Province from 16 to 22 February 2021
The operation will be carried out in the areas of Harapa, Kulitanai and Karakohiai on Alu Island and Kariki on Fauro Island. It will be from Tuesday this week (16 February) until Monday 22 February 2021. The bomb blasting will be between 9 am and 4pm each day.
Supervising Officer In-charge of EOD, Staff Sergeant Peter Ririvere says, “The bomb blasting operation is in response to multiple UXO reports sent to the police by local communities in those areas.”
He explains, “The RSIPF responsible for the removal and destruction of UXOs left behind during World War II which are endangering our environment, lives and property. I urge our local communities in those areas in the Shortlands to keep out while the operation is in progress.”
“I appeal to communities in the Shortland Islands to report to the EOD team while it is on the ground any sighting of unexploded bombs so that it can be dealt with straight away.”
“I call on the communities in the Shortland Islands and across the country to report any sightings of any unexploded bombs through the police free toll line 999, the RSIPF EOD mobile 7495215 / 7495214 or to any nearest police stations,” says Supervising OIC, EOD Ririvere.
