RSIPF Strengthens Tactical Capability Through Specialist Training in Canberra
The RSIPF continues to strengthen its specialist operational capability through advanced tactical training delivered in partnership with the Australian Federal Police (AFP) in Canberra.
RSIPF Deputy Commissioner Ian Vaevaso, accompanied by Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Police, National Security and Correctional Services, Karen Galokale, visited the AFP Majura Complex to observe and congratulate RSIPF officers participating in specialist tactical training.
Other guests included the current RSIPF and AFP Policing Partnership Program (RAPPP) Commander, Commander Hall O’Meagher, and former RAPPP Commander, Specialist Operations Commander Heath Davies.
The visiting officers are members of the RSIPF Police Response Department (PRD) who have recently completed specialised tactical training at the AFP Majura Training Facility.
Delivered by AFP Tactical Response instructors, the training strengthened PRD capability by increasing the number of qualified RSIPF instructors. This approach supports the long‑term sustainability of specialist skills within the PRD and addresses workforce planning challenges associated with trainer progression and staffing realignments.
The training reflects RSIPF’s ongoing commitment to developing highly skilled tactical personnel capable of responding to complex operational environments, supporting national security priorities and the ongoing sovereignty of the Solomon Islands.
Also in Australia, at the request of the AFP, are RSIPF Public Order Management (POM) Trainers, who are contributing to AFP training activities. RSIPF leadership acknowledged the professionalism and expertise of the POM specialists, noting their inaugural role in supporting Public Order Management training for AFP members.
“As law enforcement peers in this specialist field, the exchange of skills and trainers between Solomon Islands and Australia strengthens our shared security partnership across the Pacific,” RAPPP Commander Hall O’Meagher said.
This capability exchange supports the development of specialist leaders within the PRD, ensuring RSIPF retains the capacity to deliver advanced tactical training domestically and across the region.
RSIPF will continue to work closely with AFP counterparts to review and evaluate specialist training outcomes, ensuring programs align with the Solomon Islands National Security Strategy and RSIPF Commissioner’s Orders, and that acquired skills are transferable and sustainable.
These initiatives reaffirm RSIPF’s commitment to professional excellence and strengthen the enduring security partnership between Solomon Islands and Australia.
