RSIPF Sergeants Build Leadership Skills for the Future
Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) sergeants from Honiara and the provinces strengthened their leadership and management skills during the Sergeants Leadership Management Development Program, supported by the RSIPF and AFP Policing Partnership Program (RAPPP).
Held in Honiara, the program brought frontline leaders together to exchange operational experience, strengthen their leadership judgement and develop practical approaches to managing people and workplace challenges.
The program is part of RAPPP’s ongoing support to equip RSIPF officers for the evolving demands of policing in Solomon Islands and to prepare future leaders for the expansion of the RSIPF.
Participants explored strategic thinking, decision-making, communication, ethical leadership and people management. They also reflected on their leadership practices, shared experiences and strengthened professional networks across the organisation.
Sergeant Samantha Qoloni said the program had strengthened her leadership skills and that she had already applied what she learned in the workplace.
“The sessions on strategic thinking, decision-making, communication and people management were valuable, and I have already started applying what I learned in my workplace,” Sergeant Qoloni said. “I thank RAPPP for providing this training and supporting my leadership journey. I look forward to participating in future programs and hope more training opportunities like this will be offered.”
The program also highlighted the 2025 endorsement of the RSIPF Career Leadership Development Framework (CLDF), which connects leadership training with officers’ longer-term career development. The framework provides clear pathways to prepare officers for promotion through an evidence-based, transparent and fair process.
The CLDF identifies the capabilities, behaviors and development opportunities required at each stage of an officer’s career. It will guide future leadership programs, talent development, succession planning and workforce capability strategies.
RSIPF Deputy Commissioner Simpson Pogeava said leadership development was critical to the organization’s future.
“Our people are our most important asset, and investing in leadership development is critical to the future success of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force. The program has provided our leaders with practical skills to lead effectively in complex environments,” Deputy Commissioner Pogeava said.
“The Career Leadership Development Framework is a significant achievement, providing a clear pathway for leadership growth throughout officers’ careers. We thank RAPPP for its continued support and partnership in strengthening leadership across the RSIPF,” Deputy Commissioner Pogeava said.
The program forms part of a broader suite of RAPPP-supported leadership and professional development initiatives aligned with RSIPF organizational priorities and the development of its next generation of leaders.
