RSIPF PB Gizo deploys to support disaster relief operations in Western and Choiseul Provinces.

The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) Guardian Class Patrol Boat (PB), Gizo, departed Honiara yesterday (14 April 2026) with supplies to the communities affected in Western and Choiseul Provinces.

The deployment of PB aims to provide essential support and aid to those impacted by Tropical Cyclone Maila.

Director of Police Maritime, Chief Superintendent Nevol Soko, said support with Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) operations in Western and Choiseul Provinces is part of the government’s commitment to support affected communities.

Chief Superintendent Soko said the core role of PB is to provide critical support during disaster response efforts.

Director Soko said these vessels are equipped to deliver emergency relief supplies to communities affected by natural disasters such as cyclones, tsunamis, and other hazard events.

Mr. Soko said PB’s capability to access remote and isolated areas makes them an essential asset during times of crisis. The vessel will assist for more than 20 days during the operation.

He said the PB Gizo will serve as a key rapid-response platform, enabling the timely deployment and distribution of essential aid to affected communities in Western and Choiseul provinces.

The RSIPF remains committed to supporting national disaster response efforts and working alongside government agencies such as the National Disaster Management Office (NDMO) and partners to safeguard lives and restore affected communities.
