RSIPF officers undergo driving Instructor training
Four officers of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) are currently undergoing Driving instructor training at the Solomon Islands Professional Driver Training Services will run for approximately 6 weeks starting on 18 May 2026.
The training is conducted purposely to develop a sustainable foundation of qualified driving instructors within RSIPF, strengthen professional, safe, and disciplined driving standards, re-establish driver training, increase the number of licensed drivers across the organization, and enhance overall operational effectiveness and organizational readiness.
Speaking at the official opening of the training yesterday, Supervising Assistant Commissioner (AC) National Operations (NO) Lionel Kapisa said, “As members of the RSIPF, we are entrusted to keep our community safe and deliver professional policing services across all operational environments.”
“A critical part of this responsibility is our ability to respond to incidents and carry out our duties safely and efficiently. This relies heavily on having trained, licensed, and capable drivers across the organization,” AC adds.
AC NO said, “In recent years, the RSIPF has faced a significant challenge in this area. The absence of a basic driver training program for many years has resulted in a backlog of unlicensed officers across commands and throughout the provinces, impacting operational effectiveness across the organization.”
“RSIPF has had limited instructional capacity, with only a small number of qualified driving instructors available to deliver training. Addressing this gap is a priority for RSIPF. Strengthening our training systems is essential to improving operational readiness, officer safety, and overall performance,” said AC Kapisa.
This program is a key step forward. It will support the development of qualified driving instructors and enable the restoration of driver training across the RSIPF and rebuilding from the ground up—establishing strong foundations in driving standards, safety, and instruction that the organization can rely on in the future.
Assistant Commissioner Lionel Kapisa acknowledged the RSIPF-AFP Policing Partnership Program (RAPPP) for the steps taken to ensure the continuation of the driving programme in support of RSIPF’s capability and capacity building initiatives.
