RSIPF conducts awareness program at Mbokona Community High School in Honiara
Officers of the Royal Solomon Island Police Force (RSIPF) National Crime Prevention Department in Honiara conducted an awareness program at Mbokona Community High School (MCHS) on 3 September 2020 as part of working in partnership with schools and communities to strengthen and rebuild trust in the RSIPF.
Director of the National Crime Prevention Department (NCPD) Superintendent Solomon Sisimia says, “My team visited MCHS as part of working in partnership with communities to fight crime and implement the National Crime Prevention Strategy 2019- 2022. The NCPD team was invited by the management of the School because of the increasing deviant behaviour experienced there.
“The Principal of the School requested NCPD to do an awareness talk to discourage and make the students aware of the five drivers of crime including alcohol and drugs, family violence, issues affecting youth, resources and environment and emerging issues. The NCPD team explained the drivers of crime and their consequences on the behaviour of students. The penalties for criminal activities were also explained during the awareness talk,” says Superintendent Sisimia.
The presentations during the awareness program also covered other issues including the current COVID-19 State of Public Emergency and measures to prevent contracting the virus such as personal hygiene and social distancing as well as other advice being disseminated by the Ministry of Health and Medical Services.
The issues of drugs and alcohol and their effects as well as cyber-crime were also discussed.
The more than 400 students at the MCHS and teachers attended the program. They were also given the opportunity to ask questions at the end of the presentations.
“The Principal of MCHS acknowledged the team from the NCPD for the very informative presentations and hoped that the information gained during the awareness program will have an impact on the behaviour of the students at his school,” says Superintendent Sisimia
