RSIPF Commissioner thanks the public for good behavior and congratulates PM Wale.

The Commissioner of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF), Mr. Ian Vaevaso, thanked members of the public for showing good behavior during the election of the new Prime Minister (PM) today (15 May 2026).

The RSIPF Commissioner congratulated the members of the public for their exceptional cooperation, good behavior, and support toward security personnel during the successful election of the new PM.

The Commissioner praised citizens for prioritizing peace and unity, noting that the peaceful conduct of the election is a testament to the nation’s maturity and commitment to democracy. The public’s patience and adherence to law and order allowed the electoral process to take place without disruption.

“I wish to commend all citizens, especially those residing in Honiara City, for your maturity. You listened to the call for calm and peace, allowing our parliamentarians to resolve the political situation and elect our new prime minister in a safe environment,” Commissioner Ian Vaevaso said.

The commissioner extended sincere congratulations to the PM, Hon. Mathew Cooper Wale (MP), and expressed the police force’s commitment to supporting the new government as they assume their duties.

The new PM of the Solomon Islands (SI) took his oath before the Governor General of SI this afternoon, on 15 May 2026, at the Government House, which the Commissioner of RSIPF with other senior government officials also witnessed during the oath administration.

The Commissioner of Police would like to thank the caretaker government for their support and commitment over the past weeks of political situations and for making sure that law and order are maintained and upheld to allow democratic processes to take their course.

“Let me appeal to the good people of this country to continue giving the new PM and his government your support as they get down to the business of governing. We are confident in a future that remains peaceful,” Commissioner Vaevaso added.

In light of the upcoming formation of the new government, the RSIPF wishes to reinforce its steadfast commitment to operating with absolute neutrality, independence, and impartiality, ensuring that law enforcement services remain free from political influence, said Commissioner Vaevaso.

He said, “The police force also acknowledged the dedication of all security partners and both the RSIPF and Correctional Service officers (authorized officers) under my command for their involvement in the operation.”
