RSIPF and MPNSCS Conduct Consultation Workshop to Review Police Act 2013
The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF), in partnership with the Ministry of Police, National Security and Correctional Services (MPNSCS), has successfully concluded a three-day consultation workshop dedicated to reviewing the Police Act 2013 and identifying essential areas for legislative reform.
The sessions, held on April 15, 22, and 23, 2026, at the RSIPF Headquarters in Honiara, were facilitated by the RSIPF Legislative Review Working Committee and MPNSCS. The workshop convened a diverse group of participants, including RSIPF executive leadership, senior government officials, and representatives from the Ministry of Commerce, Industry, Labour and Immigration, the Ministry of Justice & Legal Affairs, and the Ministry of Fisheries & Marine Resources.
The primary objective of this initiative was to conduct a critical evaluation of the existing legislation to address current operational challenges and ensure the legal framework remains effective and responsive to the evolving policing landscape.
“This consultation reflects our collective commitment to strengthening the legal framework that governs policing in the Solomon Islands, ensuring that the Act remains relevant, responsive, and effective in addressing current and emerging challenges facing the country,” said Permanent Secretary Karen Galokale. “It also demonstrates our shared responsibility to uphold the rule of law, enhance accountability, and build public trust and confidence in the policing system”.
Beyond identifying legislative gaps, the workshop served as a vital forum for inter-agency dialogue regarding modern policing issues and coordination strategies. The recommendations developed during these sessions will directly inform the ongoing formal review process and proposed amendments to the Police Act. Following the completion of a comprehensive legal review report, the ministry plans to expand the process with nationwide consultations.
