Quarantining of incoming overseas travelers will continue regardless of the community transmission the country.
Health and Medical Services Minister, Dr. Culwick Togamana confirmed this last night, saying that this is part of ongoing efforts to prevent the entry and spread of Omicron and other variants.
Currently, the Delta variant of covid-19 is spreading in the country following an outbreak in January this year.
“We are continuing to quarantine incoming travelers before discharging them to the community once they fulfil quarantine days and return negative tests. This is part of our ongoing efforts to prevent entry and spread of Omicron and other variants,” Minister Togamana said.
Thirty one people are currently in quarantine and are being tested and monitored for COVID-19.
Any positive tests from those in quarantine will be sent overseas for genome sequencing to identify the type of variant.
