Public Notice: Opening of One Lane Traffic at Seaside Section from HCC to Hot Bread Roundabout
The public is advised that the inner lane at the landside section from HCC to Hot Bread Roundabout will be open for traffic starting August 4, 2026. The outer lane will remain closed to traffic to allow ongoing concreting works at the bus bays and parking areas. Once curing is complete, the road will be progressively reopened to 2-lane traffic as works move eastward from the Hot-Bread Roundabout.
To facilitate the safe and efficient execution of the works and traffic flow, the following arrangements will be implemented:
Traffic Arrangements
- Westbound vehicles will only traverse the inner lane. Safety cones will be installed to delineate the traffic and guide the motorists.
- Vehicles will not be allowed to park along the area. Only loading and unloading will be allowed at the outer lane in areas where there are no on-going works.
- The ITA junction will still be closed for traffic. Vehicles from Vavae Ridge will proceed to the Hot Bread Junction since this will also be opened for traffic starting August 4, 2026.
- Eastbound vehicles can traverse a two-way traffic at the seaside lane.
- Eastbound bus terminal will remain at the MID Works Compound and the westbound bus terminal will still be at the back of the Town Council Building until such time that the road works are completed or until any further notice.
Pedestrian Management
- Pedestrian walkways and designated crossing points will be provided at selected locations.
- For safety reasons, pedestrians are required to use the underpass and designated crossing points only. This will help minimize traffic disruptions and ensure the safety of all road users during the remaining construction period.
- Traffic Controllers from the Contractor, together with personnel from the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) and the Road Transport Board (RTB), will be stationed on-site to assist motorists and pedestrians and to ensure the safe movement of traffic.
Business Access
- Access to businesses within the work zone will be maintained where practicable and will be managed according to actual site conditions.
Safety Measures
- Further details are outlined in the attached Traffic Management Plan (TMP). Traffic signs, warning devices, and safety measures will still be maintained during the construction of the remaining works. Additional traffic control measures and signage may be introduced as required, and construction schedules may be adjusted depending on weather conditions and operational requirements.
