PRIME MINISTER MANELE RETURNS FROM SUCCESSFUL TROIKA MEETING IN FIJI

HONIARA, Solomon Islands, April 1, 2025 —Prime Minister Honourable Jeremiah Manele has returned to the country following his participation at the 2nd Pacific Islands Forum TROIKA meeting held in Nadi, Fiji on Monday 14 April 2025.

The Prime Minister represented Solomon Islands in the high-level meeting, marking the first in-person TROIKA gathering following a virtual session last month. As the incoming Chair of the Pacific Islands Forum, Solomon Islands holds a seat in the TROIKA alongside the current and outgoing Chairs.

During the meeting, Prime Minister Manele and fellow TROIKA leaders reviewed key regional priorities, including recent developments in New Caledonia, the Secretary General’s Quarterly Report, progress on the Pacific Resilience Facility, implications of recent United States foreign policy decisions, and the ongoing Review of the Regional Architecture (RRA).

The Forum reaffirmed its commitment to supporting peace and stability in New Caledonia, endorsed recommendations from an earlier mission to the territory, and expressed interest in future engagements with both French and New Caledonian leadership at upcoming global events.

On climate and disaster resilience, the TROIKA welcomed progress on the Pacific Resilience Facility Treaty and emphasized the importance of securing funding for this Pacific-led initiative. Leaders also discussed the impacts of shifting U.S. foreign policies on Pacific priorities and regional mechanisms, and agreed to seek further dialogue with the U.S. on aid commitments and trade issues.

Prime Minister Manele also provided updates on Solomon Islands’ preparations to host the 54th Pacific Islands Forum Leaders Meeting in Honiara from 8–12 September 2025. Planning is well underway, with invitations expected to be sent out by mid-May.

Bilateral meetings were held with counterparts from Cook Islands and Fiji, focusing on cooperation in areas such as labour mobility, air services, security arrangements, and regional celebrations.

The Prime Minister expressed gratitude for the opportunity to engage with regional leaders on shared priorities and reaffirmed Solomon Islands’ dedication to strengthening Pacific unity.
