Prime Minister Manele holds first press conference for 2026 and reaffirms importance of media engagement
Honiara, Solomon Islands, Wednesday 4 January 2026 – Prime Minister Hon. Jeremiah Manele, MP, held his first press conference for the year on Monday, marking the continuation of regular engagements with the media in 2026.
The Prime Minister recognises the media as an important bridge between his office and the people of Solomon Islands and views regular press conferences as a key platform for openness, accountability, and public communication.
He said this platform is particularly important at a time when misinformation and disinformation are increasingly present, especially with the rapid growth of digital and online media platforms.
He noted that press conferences provide an opportunity for independent journalists to question the Prime Minister directly on national and regional issues, contributing to transparency and informed public discussion.
The Prime Minister acknowledged the crucial role journalists play, particularly in an evolving media environment.
“Public discussion and scrutiny are a normal part of democratic life. The Government recognises the important role of the media in informing the public and remains committed to providing accurate and balanced information,” Prime Minister Manele said.
Prime Minister Manele reaffirmed his commitment to continued engagement with the media throughout 2026 as part of the Government’s broader approach to transparency, responsible governance, and public trust.
