Prime Minister Manele Embarks on Solidarity Visit to Disaster-Affected Western and Choiseul Provinces

HONIARA, Solomon Islands – Prime Minister Jeremiah Manele has commenced a formal two days solidarity visit to the Western and Choiseul Provinces, both of which have been declared disaster areas. The mission is intended to provide personal assurance of the national government’s commitment to supporting these regions as they transition into the recovery phase.

The Prime Minister departed Honiara at 10:00 AM today, arriving at Nusatupe at 11:30 AM. Upon his arrival, he conducted a courtesy call with the Premier of Western Province, Hon. Billy Veo.

Following these initial discussions, the Prime Minister travelled to Vella La vella and Simbo Islands this afternoon. These two islands have been identified as the hardest-hit areas within the Western Province.

The Prime Minister’s itinerary continues tomorrow morning, when he is scheduled to depart Gizo for the Shortland Islands before making his way to Taro, Choiseul Province, aboard the RSIPV Gizo.

In Choiseul, he will meet with the Provincial Premier before traveling to Sasamuga village to engage directly with the community.

The primary objective of this visit is to demonstrate the government’s solidarity with affected citizens and to guarantee continued support throughout the ongoing recovery efforts.

Meanwhile the NDMO, through the NEOC, continues to work closely with all stakeholders to ensure a coordinated, timely, and effective response to Tropical Cyclone Maila, prioritizing the needs of affected and vulnerable communities.
