Police investigates infanticide incident in East Honiara
Officers from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) at Naha Police Station are currently investigating the death of an infant whose body was discovered between the Naha 4 and GG Valley areas on the morning of 3 June 2026.
The matter was reported to Naha Police Station by employees of Solomon Water, who were carrying out routine work in the area when they discovered the infant’s umbilical cord in the sewerage tank.
The employee then took the infant from the sewer and placed the body on top of the sewerage tank.
Police officers attended the scene and transported the infant to Naha Clinic, where medical staff confirmed that the deceased was a male infant estimated to be approximately six months old.
Investigations are ongoing to find out how the body came to be at the location.
Officer Commanding Station (OCS) for Naha Police Station, Superintendent Leslie Kili, is appealing to residents living in and around the Naha 4 and GG Valley areas to come forward with any information that may assist police with their investigations.
“This is a very sad incident, and we urge anyone who may have information relating to this matter to assist police. Any information, no matter how small, may help investigators establish the facts surrounding this case,” Superintendent Kili said.
Police forensic officers have attended the scene and are assisting with the ongoing investigation.
