Police duty to serve community
The Commissioner of the Royal Solomon Island Police Force (RSIPF), Mr. Ian Vaevaso, in his remarks during the official handing and taking over ceremony at Rove on the 29th, said, “Polis blo iu”—”Your Police”; this is not a slogan, it is a commitment.
Community safety begins in villages, settlements, churches, and homes. Under our strategic plan, we will strengthen community policing, work closely with chiefs, church leaders, women’s and youth groups, and revitalize crime prevention structures at national, provincial, and community levels.
Police will focus on early intervention for youth, strengthen responses to gender-based and domestic violence, and ensure culturally respectful engagement in resolving disputes.
Policing in the Solomon Islands is complex, spread across vast distances, diverse cultures, and challenging conditions. Yet expectations remain consistent: professional policing wherever our people live. That requires more than resources. It requires resilience, discipline, and strong coordination across the force.
Commissioner Vaevaso said urban growth, transnational crime, drugs, cybercrime, and resource‑related crime demand stronger intelligence, coordination, and capability. Our Strategic Plan provides the framework; delivery will be driven by accountability and follow‑through.
“To the people of the Solomon Islands: policing cannot succeed without your trust and partnership. Engage with us, support prevention efforts, and hold us accountable. In return, the RSIPF will serve with fairness, transparency, and without fear or favor across every province and community,” said Mr. Vaevaso.
He said the years ahead are critical. We have clear direction. We have committed officers. Now we must deliver. As Commissioner, I will focus on strengthening leadership, enforcing standards, and ensuring that this force operates with unity, discipline, and purpose.
