PM Wale revokes dolphin export regulation

Honiara, Solomon Islands – Prime Minister Matthew Wale has signed a new regulation banning the export of dolphins, effective Saturday, 16th May 2026.

This revokes a previous regulation signed by former Fisheries Minister Bradley Tovosia on 14th May.

Wale’s move aims to protect the country’s tuna industry from reputational risk and international backlash.

The ban sends a strong message emphasising that Solomon Islands prioritises strict fisheries standards and national interests.

The government is committed to safeguarding the fisheries sector and protecting jobs and international partnerships.
