PM Commends Isabel Province for Securing MV Isalei
Honiara, Solomon Islands, Tuesday 12 May 2026 – Caretaker Prime Minister Hon. Jeremiah Manele today commended Isabel Province for securing the fast craft MV Isalei during a handover ceremony in Honiara.
Speaking at Point Cruz Yacht Club, Prime Minister Manele acknowledged Isabel Province Premier Hon. Lawrence Hayward and the provincial administration for their leadership and commitment in pursuing the vessel for the province.
The MV Isalei was donated by Shandong Province of the People’s Republic of China following engagements between Isabel provincial leaders and Chinese officials last year.
Prime Minister Manele said the successful partnership demonstrates how provincial engagement and international cooperation can deliver practical development outcomes for communities.
“You have shown that provincial engagement with our international partners can yield real results,” Prime Minister Manele said.
He said the vessel will improve transport, strengthen maritime connectivity and support service delivery for communities throughout Isabel Province.
The Prime Minister also acknowledged the continued partnership between Solomon Islands and China, describing the donation as an example of friendship translated into practical assistance for people at the provincial level.
The 11.5-metre fast craft has a capacity for 10 passengers and two crew members, with endurance of up to 210 nautical miles.
