PM calls for unity and solidarity
PRIME Minister Manasseh Sogavare has called for solidarity and unity amongst all citizens of this country.
Speaking during his nation-wide address today, the Prime Minister said in such unprecedented times, unity and solidarity is very important.
“Now is not the time for division. Nor is it the time for petty politics,” he said.
Prime Minister Sogavare said this is a time that calls for ordinary people to do extra ordinary things for this country and our people.
He said this is a time that requires people to act selflessly and to put the interest of this country and people above all other interests.
“Now is the time to rise to the occasion and be counted,” he said.
The Prime Minister’s call for solidarity and unity come amidst his announcement of the country’s five new COVID-19 cases today.
Meanwhile, the Prime Minister has thanked citizens that have continued to support the government in the fight against COVID-19 in Solomon Islands.
Prime Minister Sogavare said the situation is under control and we have continued to avoid community transmission.
He said our front liners and everyone involved have worked very hard to contain the virus within the quarantine and isolation stations.
He said the aim is to eliminate it from there.
“We have lost our status as a COVID-19 free country but I am confident that we have managed it very well,” he said.
Prime Minister Sogavare said the government is confident that we will overcome this pandemic and we will retain our COVID-19 free status again.
“The government cannot do this alone. As I have already said, we need all hands on deck and we must remain united in our fight against this deadly virus,” he said.
