The Government Services Integration Committee (GSIC) Ministerial Officials in Cluster Group 2 on Airport Facilitation for the Pacific Games 2023, met for the first time yesterday in the Office of the Prime Minister and Cabinet, to discuss their proposed work plan and activities for the upcoming Pacific Games 2023.
A Statement from the GSIC Secretariat in the Office of the Prime Minister and Cabinet, stated that the Ministries who met yesterday were from the Cluster Group 2 Ministries, which include the Ministry of Commerce Industries Labour and Immigration, Ministry of Police National Security & Correctional Services, Ministry of Communications and Aviation, Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and External Trade, National Hosting Authority and Honiara City Council, and the Office of the Prime Minister and Cabinet.
The Statement added that these Ministries deal with Airport arrivals, ceremonies, and departures associated with the Pacific Games 2023.
The Ministry of Communication and Aviation assures the meeting that the upgrade and expansion of the Henderson Airport International Apron and Taxing facilities as well as the new construction of the new Henderson Airport Terminal will be completed on time, before the Pacific Games 2023.
Both the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and External Trade and the Ministry of Culture and Tourism have also briefed the meeting of their plans and arrangements in place to receive our overseas dignitaries on arrival in the country.
Ministry of Commerce Industries Labour and Immigration, Ministry of Finance and Treasury as well as Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock all have an importance to play in facilitating the smooth entry of our visitors through provision of immigration and visa services, customs declaration, biosecurity checks and controls in the country.
For general security proposes during the Pacific Games, the Ministry of Police, National Security and Correctional Services and the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force have advised of the meeting of their operations plans, which will be activated during games.
Honiara City Council as the host city will also play an important role in welcoming our visitors to Solomon Islands during the games.
Meanwhile, the GSIC Secretariat in the Office of the Prime Minister and Cabinet noted the positive progress of work done to date, and plans in place, and encouraged Ministries and Honiara City Council to continue on their work and commitment in undertaking the tasks and responsibilities assigned to them in preparation for Pacific Games 2023.
It also called on support and understanding all stakeholders, including Honiara City residents to support the work of these Government Ministries as they embarked on their important tasks.
The Cluster Group 2 Ministries are part of the eleven Cluster Groups where Ministries have been assigned to different functions and responsibilities to perform and support the Games Organizing Committee, the National Hosting Authority, and the Government to successfully deliver the Pacific Games in 2023.
