PEOPLE WITH MEDICAL CONDITIONS URGED TO SEEK URGENT HELP
As covid-19 continues to surge across the country, people with existing health conditions are advised to seek immediate medical help if they are feeling symptoms of covid-19.
Health and Medical Services Minister, Dr. Culwick Togamana made the call on Thursday 17 while announcing the current focus to prevent deaths due to COVID.
Unvaccinated elderly people and those above the age of 45 with existing medical conditions are also encouraged to seek medical advice for vaccination to protect them from the virus.
“If you are 45 years and above or have underlying medical conditions and tested positive for Covid, seek medical care urgently and do not wait for your symptoms to worsen,” Minister Togamana said.
He further encouraged people in this category to continue to take their regular medicines and check-ups for illnesses such as diabetes, blood pressure and heart conditions and other diseases.
As covid-19 related deaths continue to surge, an initial review of data shows that most deaths occurred in unvaccinated people who had underlying medical conditions such as heart disease, respiratory disease and diabetes.
