
NOMINATIONS NOW OPEN
CANDIDATE nominations for the June 4th West Guadalcanal Constituency and Paripao Provincial Ward by-elections is now open.
The Solomon Islands Electoral Commission (SIEC) this week announced that the fourteenth-day nomination period opened on 9th April and will close on 23rd April, 2025.
Chief Electoral Officer, Jasper Harewood Anisi stated, “Nomination is now open. The Candidate Nomination Centre is located at the Ports (Solomon Islands Ports Authority) area. Those wishing to contest are urged to come to the nomination center before 23rd April when nominations close”
Mr Anisi said the criteria for intending candidates remain the same.
“The law is still the same, there was no review or amendments – all qualifications are still the same. You have to be 21 years and above, you have to be a citizen of Solomon Islands, you have to be a registered voter to be able to contest the West Guadalcanal Parliamentary Seat whilst anyone contesting for Paripao ward provincial assembly has to be a registered voter within Guadalcanal Province.
“Each candidate must be nominated by three nominators who must be registered voters of a particular electorate”.
He added nomination fees to contest the elections also remain the same.
“The nomination fee to contest the West Guadalcanal Constituency Parliamentary Seat remains $5,000 (SBD), whilst the fee to contest the Paripao Ward Provincial Assembly Seat also remains the same at $2,500 (SBD)”.
